Description: Assistant Estimator

General Duties: Assist with the fundamental functions of estimating for potential and awarded projects as well as perform other responsibilities as they pertain to the success of the organization.

Reports to: Lead Commercial and Residential Estimators (also assist others as needed/required)

Phase 1 (Initial 6-8 months)

In conjunction with lead estimators, become familiar with quantity takeoff from plans. Takeoffs are completed utilizing Excel® spreadsheets or on estimating software (The Estimating EDGE® program). All training to be provided by Reitter.
Become familiar with products and services provided (Weather Resistant Barriers, Stucco, EIFS, Manufactured Stone, Thin Brick, etc.). Majority of job functions to be spent reviewing and becoming familiar with bid documents, product literature/samples, and performing quantity takeoff.
Field training could be required (depending on construction background) prior to starting office training, this is essential to the duties of the estimator’s position with Reitter. Field training will help the new assistant estimator to become familiar with the products and installation methods.
Attend educational workshops/seminars, reviewing technical publications, and organization meetings. Some training may be required while other training may simply be encouraged depending upon material presented and how it relates to Estimating Assistant’s job functions

Phase 2

Receive project lead/information from lead estimator and perform follow-up with potential client(s) to procure bid documents. When requested, review project boards for potential bid opportunities and forward to lead estimator.    
Once bid documents are received, review and identify/resolve discrepancies. Initiate RFI (Request For Information), in conjunction with lead estimator, and forward to client(s). Review all changes (bulletins, addenda, ASI’s, etc.) to bid documents and determine if received changes affect scope of work and incorporate changes into estimate.
As requested, contact suppliers/manufacturers and potential subcontractors for clarification/pricing.
Complete quantity takeoff and forward to the lead estimator for review/pricing. Review completed quantity takeoff with lead estimator; review date/time will be established during the initial document review process.
As requested, prepare proposals with desired detailed scope of work. This function will be assessed and capability determined as training develops in other areas.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
The job description as outlined above is not to be considered as all inclusive of the functions required. From time to time additional tasks may be assigned and as such become a part of the basic duties. Other duties may include but are not limited to:

Preparing product submittals for awarded projects and forward to client for review/approval
Pricing change orders and review with lead estimator
Compiling and submitting close-out documents (maintenance data, warranties, etc.) as required
Making material delivery when there is a conflict with Supply’s schedule /or emergency deliveries
When time permits, accompany lead estimator to project pre-bid, take pictures of existing conditions with company provided camera and download to project file, and take notes during pre-bid meeting.
Assist with setting up for company functions, meetings, misc. material pickup, etc.
